Hunter Education

ONLINE + FIELD DAY CLASS

Students may complete Online Courses at their own pace before attending an instructor-led field day. Online courses include instruction on firearm safety, hunter responsibility, and ethics. The field day portion of the training includes practical application scenarios including crossing a fence or obstacles with a firearm, wildlife identification, zones of fire and basic rifle shooting fundamentals. Upon completion of the field day, each student will take a written exam and undergo a live-fire shooting exercise. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend any portion of the training.

The Division of Wildlife Resources requires students to purchase a voucher prior to taking this class.  Vouchers can be purchased at any licensed agent for $10.  Upon successful completion of course, students will receive a free 365-day Small Game License.  The license will allow a Hunter Education graduate to hunt small game during the current season.  The Hunter Education card, commonly known as the “blue card,” will be mailed to the student. Classes fill up quickly, so sign up now to reserve your spot in the class. Classes are taught (Week 1) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m.  (Week 2) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 8 to 11 a.m.  All firearms must be transported in and out of the Orem Fitness Center in gun cases!

Purchase a Registration Certificate.  Purchase a Hunter Education Registration Certificate ($10) before attending this class. You may purchase a certificate at any division office or licensed agent.  The instructor must have this   certificate to officially enroll you in the class.

Sign up for a field day (Includes hands-on workstations, a written test and a shooting test)

 Study the online material in preparation for the field day.  There are several online courses available.  You may choose any of the courses, but you must present proof of the completion to your instructor at the field day.
